AED & CPR Course (1-day)

Heart and circulatory disease causes around 200,000 deaths each year, many of which could be
prevented with early access to a defibrillator. Following a cardiac arrest, a person’s chance of
survival decreases by approximately 10% for every minute that passes without treatment.
However, by starting CPR immediately and applying defibrillation promptly, a person’s chance of
survival can increase to as much as 75%.
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are becoming increasingly common in workplaces and
public spaces. Public access AEDs are widely available across the UK and can be found in
locations such as schools, supermarkets, leisure centres, and even village telephone boxes.
This highly practical course teaches learners how to carry out CPR and safely use an AED with
confidence. It is ideal for higherrisk workplaces where a first aid needs assessment has identified
the requirement for staff trained in AED use, as well as for anyone who wants to learn how to
effectively use this lifesaving piece of equipment.

What will you cover?
• Priorities of casualty management
• Chain of survival
• Cardiac arrest
• Airway management
• CPR
• Guidelines for the use of an AED
• Correct placement of AED pads
• Using an AED in a swimming pool environment
• Children and AED use
• Safety considerations when using an AED
• Storage and maintenance of an AED

• Recovery position

Assessment & Certificate

Assessment takes place continuously throughout the course to determine your knowledge, skills,
and understanding of CPR and defibrillation. A practical assessment is completed at the end of
the course, demonstrating the management of a casualty in cardiac arrest, the delivery of CPR,
and the safe use of an AED.

Qualification Renewal
The qualification is valid for two years from the date of assessment. To requalify, learners must
be assessed against the same learning outcomes and assessment criteria, which is achieved by
attending the course again.
